ABOUT SERGEANT FU, WHY NOW Sergeant Fu return as more than a comeback, this is a continuation. Born in an era of bold energy and feel-good pop-rock, the project has always been driven by a simple instinct, bring people together, lift the moment, and don't overthink the joy. Life paused the noise, but not the intention. Years later, Matthew Marinus and Ryno Zeelie step back in with sharper perspective, stronger identity, and a clearer reason to create. This isn't about revisiting the past, it's about responding to something that never left. There's a rhythm to certain moments, a collective pulse that cuts across borders, language, and background. Sergeant Fu have always gravitated toward that space, where music becomes less about the artist and more about the shared experience. Sergeant Fu today is still playful, still energetic, but anchored in experience, growth, and purpose. Because some ideas don't fade, they wait for the right version of you to bring them to life. MATTHEW MARINUS Matthew Marinus is a songwriter, creative director, filmmaker, musician, and Co-Director of Stageworx Performing Arts School. Drums were his first instrument, the pulse that started everything. He went on to perform as a drummer in the international touring production of We Will Rock You, where his creative partnership and lifelong friendship with Ryno Zeelie first took shape. He also performed in major musical theatre productions including The Lion King and Beauty & The Beast, building a career rooted in live performance, discipline, and musical excellence. Following his touring years, Matthew became a founding member and drummer of The Graeme Watkins Project, contributing to a catalogue that earned radio success and a devoted following. Today, Matthew co-leads Stageworx Performing Arts School alongside his wife, Gemma Marinus. He is deeply passionate about developing the creative arts within the youth of South Africa, creating environments where young performers discover confidence, skill, and identity through artistic expression. Born To Perform, recently showcased at The Teatro, Montecasino to rave reviews, stands as a celebration of that mission, reflecting Matthew's belief that when young talent is nurtured with excellence and vision, extraordinary things happen. As Creative Director of Stageworx Media, Matthew works with shows, artists, brands, and corporations to bring their vision to life through powerful digital content and visual storytelling. RYNO ZEELIE Ryno Zeelie is a producer, guitarist, Certified Maxwell Leadership Trainer, Speaker and Coach, and Accredited Learning & Development Professional. Music was his first love. As a producer, engineer, and session guitarist, Ryno worked with some of South Africa's leading artists and performed on major stages including Idols and The Voice. He built and later sold his studio business, Figure of 8 Productions, establishing himself as a respected force in music production. Before transitioning into leadership development, Ryno toured internationally with We Will Rock You, where his creative brotherhood with Matthew Marinus was formed. He is also a member of The Graeme Watkins Project, contributing as guitarist and producer to a catalogue that earned national radio play and a loyal fan base. Ryno is the founder of Inhale Xhale, a meditation and instrumental music project focused on creating calming soundscapes that help listeners breathe, reset, and reconnect. In his second career chapter, Ryno followed a different calling, helping people unlock their potential. With over a decade of experience in Learning & Leadership, he has worked with some of South Africa's largest organisations, specialising in leadership development, learning experience design, and digital learning innovation. At the core of his work is a belief in human potential, breaking limiting beliefs, cultivating a learner mindset, and helping people realise they are capable of more than they think. "Sergeant Fu feels like a doorway back into being a kid again, a reminder that following a dream adds so much vitality into your life."
