Refund & Cancellation Policy

1. Overview

Music Royalty Lab (Pty) Ltd (“MRL”, “we”, “us”, “our”) provides digital educational content, tools, and software services.

This policy outlines the terms under which refunds, cancellations, and data handling are managed.

2. 30-Day Satisfaction Guarantee

We offer a 30-day satisfaction guarantee for first-time paid users.

You may request a full refund within 30 days of your initial purchase by contacting:

Refunds are subject to the fair use conditions outlined below.

This guarantee is provided in addition to your rights under the Consumer Protection Act (CPA), where applicable.

3. Fair Use Policy (Refund Eligibility)

To ensure fairness and prevent abuse of digital services, refund eligibility is subject to reasonable usage thresholds.

Refund requests may be declined where:

  • You have completed more than four (4) courses, or
  • You have downloaded, generated, or used more than ten (10) contract templates, including digital signature usage

Where these thresholds are exceeded, the service is considered substantially performed, and a refund may not be granted.

MRL reserves the right to review account activity and make a final determination regarding refund eligibility.

4. Digital Services & Immediate Access

By purchasing access, you acknowledge that:

  • The services are digital and delivered electronically
  • Access may begin immediately after payment
  • Once access has begun, the service is considered in progress, which may affect refund eligibility

5. Subscription Cancellations

You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account.

Upon cancellation:

  • Your subscription will remain active until the end of the current billing cycle
  • You will not be billed again after cancellation
  • No partial refunds are issued for unused time outside of the 30-day guarantee period

6. Downgrade to Free Plan

When a subscription is cancelled:

  • Your account will be automatically downgraded to the Free plan
  • Access to paid features will be removed at the end of the billing cycle
  • Your account will remain active with limited functionality based on the Free plan limits

7. Data Access & Export After Cancellation

Upon cancellation submission:

  • You will be provided with the option to download all your stored data, including song data, metadata, and related information
  • You will be required to select one (1) release or song to retain within the Free plan storage limits

You will continue to have access to your data for 30 days after cancellation.

During this period, you may:

  • Download your data
  • Organize or export your information

8. Data Retention & Deletion

After the 30-day post-cancellation period:

  • All data exceeding Free plan limits will be permanently deleted
  • This includes song data, metadata, documents, and related records not retained within the Free plan

MRL is not responsible for any loss of data after this period if it has not been downloaded or retained by the user.

9. Refund Processing Timeline

  • Refund requests are reviewed within 2–3 business days
  • Once approved, refunds are processed via your original payment method
  • Please allow 7–14 business days for funds to reflect in your account, depending on your payment provider

10. Non-Refundable Cases

Refunds will not be granted where:

  • The request is made after the 30-day period
  • The subscription has renewed
  • The fair use thresholds have been exceeded
  • The user failed to cancel before the next billing cycle
  • There is evidence of abuse of the refund policy

11. Prevention of Abuse

MRL reserves the right to:

  • Monitor usage patterns
  • Decline refund requests where misuse is detected
  • Suspend or terminate accounts engaging in repeated refund abuse or circumvention

12. Consumer Rights (CPA Compliance)

Nothing in this policy is intended to limit or exclude any rights you may have under the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) or any other applicable law in South Africa.
